Privacy Policy

OpenTaxi respects your privacy and processes personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG).

1. Data controller

2. What data we process

  • Contact details: name, phone number, email address.
  • Ride details: pickup and destination address, date/time, number of passengers, luggage, special requirements and notes.
  • Account and login data (if you create an account).
  • Payment data: status and reference of your payment (we do not store full card details; these are processed by our payment provider).
  • For drivers: business and vehicle data and uploaded documents (licence, taxi pass, insurance, registration).
  • Technical data such as IP address and necessary cookies.

3. Purposes and legal bases

  • Performing your booking and the ride — performance of the contract.
  • Payment and administration — performance of the contract and legal obligation.
  • Communication and confirmations by email/SMS — performance of the contract.
  • Reviewing and approving driver applications — performance of the contract and legitimate interest.
  • Security, fraud prevention and service improvement — legitimate interest.
  • Compliance with legal (e.g. tax) obligations — legal obligation.

4. Who we share data with

We share data only as necessary with the assigned driver and with processors that support us, under data processing agreements:

  • Supabase — database, authentication and storage.
  • Google Maps Platform — route and distance calculation.
  • Stripe — handling of online payments.
  • Resend — sending email confirmations.
  • MessageBird — sending SMS messages.
  • Vercel — website hosting.

5. Transfers outside the EEA

Some processors may process data outside the European Economic Area. In that case we ensure appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

6. Retention periods

We do not keep personal data longer than necessary. Ride and account data are kept for the duration of the relationship and thereafter as needed. Financial data are kept in line with the statutory 7-year tax retention obligation. Documents from rejected driver applications are deleted within a reasonable period.

7. Your rights

You can exercise your rights via info@opentaxi.nl. We respond within the statutory period.

  • Right of access, rectification and erasure.
  • Right to restriction of and objection to processing.
  • Right to data portability.
  • Right to withdraw consent given.

8. Cookies

We use only functional and necessary cookies, including a cookie to remember your login session and language preference. No consent is required for these. We do not place tracking or advertising cookies without your consent.

9. Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access restrictions. Driver documents are kept in protected storage.

10. Minors

Our service is not directed at persons under 16 without the consent of a parent or guardian.

Do you have a complaint about how we process your data? Please contact us at info@opentaxi.nl. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
